Site of the Week: Old Christmas Lights.com
Christmas brings out the best of passions in people. Some folks like to bake, some go crazy for decorating and others even wear Christmas colors all season to show their spirit. This week we’re thrilled to introduce you to George Nelson, a pioneer in celebrating Christmas online through his passion for old Christmas lights. His site, Old Christmas Lights.com, has been a must-visit destination for years.
There is nothing to buy at Old Christmas Lights. There aren’t even ads to see. Old Christmas Lights comprehensively tells
the story of decorating Christmas past by illuminating (pun intended) us about the great old Christmas lights we love and remember.
Picture if you will an auto parts store with those massive indexes of car parts where an expert can quickly look up where to find an obscure piece on a car that is 50 years old. That’s Old Christmas Lights.com — an amazing repository of detailed information from every decade of Christmas lights since Edison. We can just picture George there behind the counter saying “Let’s see here, I recall that series 100 WonderStar, I think it came out in 1933…”
George doesn’t stop at just lights. We loved his chapter on decorating in the 1950s and his expose on the aluminum Christmas tree.
Old Christmas Lights also shines a little on old Christmas music too by archiving recordings of Christmas carols made as far back as 1907. Where else are you going to find such ancient Christmas history so lovingly archived?
Give Old Christmas Lights a click and a bookmark. It has been an online Christmas tradition of mine for years and one I look forward to visiting often through out the year.
