Darlene Love to Release New Christmas CD
Darlene Love has made her first Christmas album and she had a rule: no oldies.
Love will release “It’s Christmas, Of Course,” on October 2. Even though her version of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” from the 1963 Phil Spector “Christmas Gift to You” album is a holiday standard, Love wanted to stick with the newer stuff.
Among the songs she remakes are “Christmas All Over Again” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, “Thanks For Christmas” by XTC and “Christmas Is The Time To Say ‘I Love You”‘ by Billy Squier. She also does songs by NRBQ, The Pretenders and The Band, as well as an original called “Night of Peace.”
Love is currently appearing as Motormouth Maybelle in the Broadway production of “Hairspray.” She also holds an annual Christmas concert in New York, which is set this year for December 17.
